Abstract

Clinical evaluation of Caerulein was examined in nonrandomized study in 78 patients scheduled for routine oral cholecystography. Intramuscular injection of Caerulein in dose of 0.5fg/kg resulted in a mean maximum contraction of the gall-bladder of 45% and a mean time until maximum contraction of 15-30 minute after injection of Caerulein.
Contraction rate of gall-bladder was compared between patients with hepatic, pancreatic and biliary disease and other group. When compared to fatty meal(egg), Caerulein caused significantly greater contraction by the 30 minute interval and demonstrated no interference with a subsequent upper gastrointestinal series performed immediately after completion of the gall-bladder examination. In addition, visualization of ducts was more often obtained with Caerulein than with the fatty meal.
